When I think of funnel cakes, I think of summer, amusement parks and festivals. It’s just a fun dessert and that’s why it attracts swarms of people. A funnel cake is made of a batter that is literally “funnelled” into a deep fryer, into what I like to call a bird’s nest shape. When it is plated, there can be a range of toppings added. The classic is soft-served vanilla ice cream with strawberry compote and sprinkled with icing sugar. However, you can get it with just icing sugar, other berries or syrups too.
I remember the first time I had one was at at amusement park in Canada. I fell in love with it instantly! There is just something so magical about funnel cakes. It’s like the ultimate summertime dessert!
