Dumplings come in all shapes and sizes and can be filled with meat or vegetables. While you can buy them frozen from many grocery stores, I’m lucky that I found a little mom n’ pop shop open up recently that makes them fresh on the spot.
While you wait, you get to see the people behind the counter make fresh batches. First they roll out the small dough balls into flat circles (two at a time with a long wooden stick). Then they fill each one with the desired filling before sealing it and plopping it into a bamboo steamer to cook. This time I ordered leek and pork dumplings which came with a side of chili sauce and soy-vinegar sauce. The only downfall about this place is you have to wait a while before you get your order, but with freshness like this it’s worth the wait!
