I went camping this past weekend and decided to experiment with making pizza over the campfire. My biggest fear was everything burning, but thankfully that didn’t happen. In fact, it came out better than I had anticipated and everyone enjoyed it. It lead to a group challenge where everyone has to cook on the campfire for any camping trips going forward (challenge accepted :)). Here’s what we used to make these deliciously smokey flavoured pizzas.
- Afghani naan
- Pizza sauce
- Shredded mozarella
- Onions (diced)
- Green peppers (diced)
Assemble your pizza by taking a naan and spreading a thin layer of pizza sauce on top of the naan. Then, add a nice layer of cheese and then your toppings.
Line the grate of your campfire pit with aluminum foil. Put the pizza on top and cook until the cheese is melted with a heatproof lid covering the pizza. We used a portable bbq lid.
When it’s done, you get a beautifully crispy pizza with cheese. It’s super easy and it’s a nice change from the usual burgers and hot dogs. Plus everyone can customize their own pizza! Just keep an eye on it when it cooks and ensure the fire is big enough, otherwise you’ll be waiting forever like we did with our first batch. Enjoy! 🙂
