Dim Sum Series: Curry Pie

Curry is often associated with Indian food, but that is only part of the truth. Curry refers to savoury food made with spices and can include other types as well. For instance, there is also Japanese curry and Malaysian style curry too. Sometimes, you will even find a curry pie served as dim sum in a Chinese restaurant.

These pies have a sweet crust on the outside, which is similar to the tops of a pineapple bun, and a spiced Asian curry filling on the inside. Sometimes it has a ground beef filling (like the one here), but other times it can be a chicken curry filling too. These flaky crusted pies are delicious to eat and it would be tantalizing to anyone that loves the combination of sweet and savoury.

Although it isn’t common to see these on all dim sum menus, it is something that can be found in many Asian bakeries. I don’t know if I would eat it for breakfast because the flavours are so strong, but I would definitely have it for dim sum or as a snack. 🙂
